Lawyering Up!

Michael Connelly is one of my favorite authors and on March 18th The Lincoln Lawyer will be hitting most theaters near you! Connelly published The Lincoln Lawyer in 2005. It is the first book, introducing defense attorney Mickey Haller, who is a cynical lawyer whose remaining spark of integrity may cost him his life. Check out the trailer below:

You should also check out his site to check out his other books. Definitely a writer you won't mind picking up!

February Pass!

February has three movie releases that I can't wait for!

First we have Sanctum coming out on February 4th. In this 3D action-thriller, we follow a team of underwater cave divers who venture into the largest, most beautiful, but least accessible cave system in the world. During their expedition, a tropical storm hits and forces them deeper into the caverns, which becomes a problem when they try to escape the cave. Watch this trailer, which is sure to get you at least interested!

Then we have Gnomeo & Juliet coming out on February 11th. Now this play on the classic Romeo & Juliet looks hilarious. Check this trailer out and tell me you don't think it will be?

Lastly, surfing the net and I came across this beauty! It's a trailer for the movie Hall Pass that is to be released February 25th. Now for those of you who don't know what a 'Hall Pass' is, here ya go; a Hall Pass: a week off from marriage to do whatever you want without consequences.

Now, how nutty is that?! I can't think of to many women who would agree to this...actually, I can't think of ANY woman that would agree to this! Doesn't mean we can't enjoy the movie and try to come up with a brilliant swindle to try and get one to agree to it. Check out the trailer:

Now, people, what do you think about this concept of a 'Hall Pass'? I'm interested in hearing this debate, weigh in below!

Peace,
-El Russo

P.S. Sorry for missing the pass couple of days. I was away from my computer and the city due to a death in the family, but I'm back now and you can all expect to be receiving my daily post going forward.

Funnily Inspirational Sports Moments

Figured since yesterday was MLK day, people wouldn't be in the office and decided to hold off on my Monday Comedy post. However, here it is, on a Tuesday none-the-less. Since this weekend was full of football, I decided to make this post about sports. Two of these are funny football plays and the last is an inspirational commercial I once saw and saved immediately. Here. We. Go.

Barry Cofield's "Don't Taze Me Bro" dance

Marshawn Lynch/Super Mario Mash Up

Now, the next one isn't football related, but I think it sends a GREAT message. Especially a message I think we should all embrace this year. Check it out.

The Greatest Hitter/Pitcher Commercial

Optimism. Be positive. Let's make the most of this year people!

Coming Up in January!

Here are the next three movies I'm definitely looking forward to seeing in January!

First up, being released this Friday (Jan. 14th) we have The Dilemma! This being a film about two buddies (Ronny & Nick), who after meeting in college, became partners in an auto design firm. Now, on the verge of landing a dream project that could launch their own company, Ronny happens to catch Nick's wife Geneva screwing around with another guy. Mayhem ensues as Ronny tries to figure out what to do next. Check out the trailer below:

Next up, is No Strings Attached, coming out on January 21st. In this one, two life-long friends decide to have sex and we learn just how close they come to ruining everything. They decide to make their relationship with no strings attached, meaning no jealousy, expectations, fighting, etc. Basically, they wanted to be friends, with sex, and no commitment. Of course, we know how well that usually works out, do they make it? We'll find out on the 21st...check out the trailer below:

Lastly, we have The Rite coming out on January 28th. Now this is one freaky looking film. I enjoy scary movies, because they don't really freak me out. However, every once in a while, a film will come out, a good ole classic horror flick. This one, I think might fall into that category. The Rite is about an American seminary student who finds faith through his various encounters with demonic forces in exorcism school at the Vatican. If that doesn't get you interested, maybe this trailer will:

Gave me the damn chills! Anywho, hope you all enjoy your day and go check these films out! Let me know what you think!

New Outlook on Drinking

At first I couldn't believe it when I read Time's Why Do Heavy Drinkers Outlive Nondrinkers? article. I was skeptical to say the least.

According to this article, there is a study that proves nondrinkers 'kick the bucket' before heavy drinkers. Yup, you read that right, nondrinkers' mortality rates are higher than drinkers. Actually, moderate drinkers, who have one to three drinks a day, live the longest out of the three.

The participants of this study were followed for 20 years. During these 20 years, 69% of those nondrinkers died, 60% of those heavy drinkers died and 41% of the moderate drinkers died.

Now, if those statistics aren't surprising enough, more shocking is the reasoning for them. Heavy drinkers are more at risk for many illnesses and cancers, but they are sociable which maintains mental and physical health. While nondrinkers are more susceptible to depression since they aren't as social.

Do you agree with these findings?

I read the results and understand them, I just can't help but feel as though someone is trying to fulfill a personal agenda here. I think there are many more factors to take into account, that might have been over seen here.

Either way, being in the moderate drinkers category, I feel safe.

Cheers!

iPhones Getting a New Home?

Extra! Extra!

Read all about it!

The iPhone is finally going to be available for Verizon customers. Or at least that is the newest buzz going viral. Verizon is hosting an event on Tuesday, here in NYC, where the BIG announcement will be made.

Ever since June 2007, AT&T has had a monopoly on the iPhone. Considering Apple gained 93 million subscribers from this deal, one can see why they haven't changed a winning strategy.

Verizon, however, has always shown interest in getting the iPhone and from the looks of it, will finally be getting its wish come true. The Verizon version would be similar to the iPhone 4 AT&T currently has, but would run on CDMA technology and will probably sport other minor differences.

By adding CDMA technology to the iPhone, Apple would also be able to gain customers internationally, in countries like China and India. Meaning the addition of 10 million U.S. customers, by adding Verizon as a carrier, is only the beginning for Apple.

Exciting news to say the least! Check out the Wall Street Journal's article here for more information.

I just might be getting an iPhone if it does go to Verizon. Let's wait and see if Tuesday's meeting confirms all of this buzz!

Urban Historian: Steve Duncan

As a graduate of Columbia University, and a candidate for a doctorate in urban history at the University of California, Steve Duncan isn't your average guy. His education, however, isn't what makes him different.

What makes him different is how he puts his urban history education to use. You see, he's the mind behind UnderCity, where he documents all of his urban explorations, which are his forte. He explores cities by visiting their hidden treasures such as subway systems, sewers, tunnels, and bridges. All the while, risking death, injury, and even incarceration with every new exploration he begins.
Check out this awesome article on NPR for more information on his most recent trek in NYC: Into The Tunnels: Exploring The Underside of NYC.

You can also check out this awesome video created by Andrew Wonder (a great director/cinematographer who ventured along with Steve on one of his explorations of the City) below!

Would you be brave enough to do what Steve does?

Make sure to follow Steve @undercitysteve and Andrew @andrewwonder live on twitter!

Brave guys to say the least!

More Baby Fun!

Keeping with last week's 'Monday's Comedy' Snow Day post, I've gathered some more funny baby videos from YouTube to brighten your Monday up!

First up, we have a very smart 3 year old. She isn't going to let no monsters get her!

Second, we have an older brother really worried about his younger brother. Even though he is really worried, the father can't help but laugh and it quickly gets him upset. Hilarious, indeed.

Now, who can forget the adorable E Trade baby? I surely have not. Check out his shocked face below; priceless!

Hope you've enjoyed this week's videos and had a little laugh to make Monday a little more bearable.

Peace,

A New Year

HAPPY 2011

EVERYBODY!!!

Another year has come and gone, and we continue life for one more year. One more year to try and make ourselves better then we were. To improve ourselves, which is a daily struggle, should be everybody's goal. Forget about new year resolutions and all these big plans; I'm not one to make them just because we are entering a new year. Of course it is nice to think of change and progress in the new year, but I'm always striving for that, and you should be too. 2010 was full of exciting and amazing experiences. Let's not dwell on the negative, and try and focus on the positive. Let's focus on the positive and bring it into the new year!

Now 2011 surely promises to bring much more surprises, excitement, and change to my life in particular. Graduation around the corner, jobs awaiting (or so I hope), spiritual enlightenment and development, etc. So my plate is PACKED! Yet, I am ready for it all! I'm ready to tackle all the tasks and projects that await me and plan on staying positive for the new year. Sure things will be tough and there will surely be bumps in the road, but hey, such is life. These things will always be there and aren't avoidable. So just keep trucking. Keep moving forward. Keep progressing. Keep developing. KEEP CHANGING!!!
"To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." - Winston Churchill

Now, I ask you dear reader, what changes do you have planned in this new year?

-El Russo
