I've been slacking big time. I was supposed to get this up the other day, but with classes starting again and fixing my room; I became extremely side tracked. Nothing to fear though, here is the update!
This one is going to be about FOOD! For those who know me, and those who want to know me, I LOVE FOOD! I'm 6'4" and weigh in at 228 pounds - can you tell I love food?
Well, the day after we landed in DR, we headed to the beach. After spending all day driving around and chilling in the water for a while; hunger struck. My mother had told me about some fish place we HAD to go to. So we left the beach and headed to Los Primos. This place was great; the staff was very friendly and they called everybody Primo (meaning cousin in Spanish). Even though everybody in DR is called primo, vesino, or something along those lines either way; it was interesting to see a restaurant that strictly called all their customers primo. There was no need to whistle for the waitress' attention or no need to do those weird hand gestures to get their attention; just a quick "prima ven aca" would do.
Now, I also loved the fact that they invited you into the back area so that you could pick the fish you wanted. Yup, you read correctly, you walk into the back and hand pick the fish you would like made for your dish. How awesome is that?! Well, being as hungry as I was, I got the beast below for myself. That fish was already missing the tail; I kind of started before realizing I should have taken a picture.
This other lovely beast of a fish was what my mother and little brother shared. It's interesting how when he's overseas he'll eat anything. We come back home and he doesn't eat half the stuff he ate on vacation.
This was the finished product. Yup, I conquered the beast all on my own. How's that for Man vs. Food? Just writing this post is making me extremely hungry, argh, why do I do this to myself? I could really go for some seafood now...but I know I won't find nothing like this over here.
Then on Monday we went to San Francisco de Macoris where my mother's family is from. Now, whenever we head to Macoris we ALWAYS stop at the Lechonera Controba. The lechonera is a roadside restaurant that serves THE BEST pig I have ever eaten in my life. To be honest, I don't really eat pig like that, but from here? Oh yes. Can't say no! Check out the pictures and tell me you would say no...
Does that look amazing or what? The taste? Oh man! Like you wouldn't believe. It WAS amazing! Even Justin ate some and then after realizing what he was eating stated "OMG, I just ate a PIG!" Haha, gotta love him....
You see that chicharron??? Oh man, mouth watering yet? Well, the day after this we switched back to seafood. And it's going to be the last plate I post because, honestly, I'm have to go out for a late night dinner if I keep on going through these pictures.
Does that look great or what? That was a Salpicon de Marisco al ajillo...greatness indeed.
Well, I'm leave it at that. Hope your enjoying the updates thus far! Make sure to keep checking back because I'm still not done!
Until next time,
Russo
