I WANTED More!

I usually don't go see movies on opening night because of the long lines, enormous crowds and its usually sold out by the time you get there.

Since we were already out on the town and didn't have anything to do, we decided to go see Wanted. I was willing to go see it, because like Batman, I've been waiting for this release since I first heard of it. Let me start by saying it was well worth the wait!!!

This movie was great! It was much better then what I expected. It wasn't one of those action movies with no storyline, it actually had a lot of plot turns and twist. You feel for the main character who has a horrible job and a cheating girlfriend. He suffers from panic attacks due to stress and his boss, or so they seem to be panic attacks.

Since I hate it when movies are ruined for me, I won't do the same here. Just know the movie is great and everybody left the theater at 3am happy and satisfied with it. I definitely recommend this movie to anybody, because its just that great. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. While at times it seemed like the movie was dragging, there is a very good reason for everything. Trust me, go watch WANTED! You will not regret it! Definitely a summer blockbuster!

The Hulk Smashed!!

Marvel did it again! This remake of The Hulk was a great improvement. It definitely brought the franchise back to life. For those of you who did not want to see it because of the one released several years ago, go watch it!! Its a complete turn around from the last one. I did not like the first one personally and was skeptical about this one, but great thing I went to see it!

After Iron Man, I thought Marvel would have a hard time living up to it, but the Hulk did just that. Actually I think I liked Hulk more then Iron Man! Iron Man was cool but it was straight forward. I think the Hulk had much more emotion, feel, and overall story line.

Much like Iron Man, it stays extremely true to the comic story line. Something which was missing from most other comic book movies. It was a great movie and I truly enjoyed it! Not to mention we went to see it on a Sunday morning so all the tickets cost six bucks! I will definitely be waking up early and catching morning movies from now on. No more double digit movie tickets for me.

Marvel has done a great job with these two movies and they have an extremely great line up in the works. If their coming soon flicks are just as great as these two, their movies will be the greatest comic renditions of all time! I am really looking forward to their movies and have high expections for them, I feel Marvel will be reinventing the superhero movie scene!

Although these two movies were great and Marvel does have a beautiful line up, I can't help but wait for DC's upcoming flick. My heart hopes it will be as great as these two, if not better. My heart can't wait to see it.....

1 Sheep 2 Sheep

Here we go again, yet another night with no sleep. Its not always the case, but some nights are worse then others. I lay awake in bed or around the room, just watching TV or on the computer, searching websites, with nothing to do.

I have self diagnosed a minor case of Insomnia. Insomnia is defined as the inability to obtain sufficient sleep, especially when chronic; difficulty in falling or staying asleep; sleeplessness, by dictionary.com.

I feel that I MUST have some slight case of insomnia because my sleep patterns are not normal. I can go days on minimal sleep. Sleeping barely five hours a night, although I do feel the toll later.

So in my restlessness, I was surfing the web, looking around and I came across this picture. I found it very amusing because it shows exactly how I feel at 3am when I can't sleep. Hell, its 3:31am now and I'm here writing this . Awake and surfing the web. I am starting to get tired already though, I guess these pass two blogs have helped clear my mind a bit.

Good night world, hopefully I am able to catch some ZZZZzzZZZzzzz.......

Would you?! Could you?!

So on Friday, I was driving to work listening to the Morning Zoo. Its the morning show on Z100 (100.3) for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about. The show is called 'Elvis Duran and the Z Morning Zoo'. Its made up of a very interesting bunch of people who make prank calls, and discuss all sorts of topics. Their topic on Friday was an extremely interesting one. It was about whether you could have sex for 365 days or not. Of course, I started wondering to myself, "Would you actually do it? Could you actually do it?"

Well, since they sparked my interest on the topic, I went ahead and looked up the information online and found an article in the New York Times (click on this link to go to article) about two couples who actually took the challenge so to speak. They even wrote books about their experiences, one of these by the title "365 Nights" and the other is titled just "Just Do It."

We shall see how well these books do, but I say that to say this, would you have sex for 365 days? Could you do it? I leave you with that thought.

Let me know what you think!!

Quisqueya en el Hudson 2008

Its that time of year again!! Los NewQuisqueyanos brings you:

QUISQUEYA EN EL HUDSON
For all those who have never attended or might have forgotten it will be held in Highbridge Park. Make sure you enter between 172nd st and 173rd st on Amsterdam Ave. Like every year, the NewQuisqueyanos have set up a great program for our enjoyment! The event will run from 1pm-8pm as usual, with many great performers (look at flyer).
Now, what is Quisqueya en el Hudson, you ask? It is an annual festival of Dominican Arts, Music and Dance. Every year they have a great number of performers come out and give a great show for the crowd.
Do you want to know the best part of this wonderful event? Its completely FREE! Yes that is right, it is brought to you entirely FREE! All you have to do is spend two bucks for the train and make your way to Highbridge Park.
This year being the 13th annual, we're looking to show full support and make it a great event! Also it is being hosted in memory of Sixto Minier. Sixto Minier was the Captain of the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit of the Congos de Villa Mella. Sixto was a great key in keeping alive the African Traditions in the Dominican Republic. Dedicating his entire life to music and playing the congos, he received several awards and acknowledgments over the years. He received one from the City Council of New York "for his contribution to the preservation of African heritage in the Dominican Republic" in 2001 and then in 2002 the Dominican Government named him a "living treasure of Dominican folklore".
So make sure to come out and join us in celebrating our culture, music, and heritage for FREE!!!

Kung-Fu Panda!

Kung-Fu Panda was definitely worth the wait! I went with the whole gang (gf, lil' bro, and god son) and everybody loved it.

The movie is about a Panda named Po who works at his Father's noodle bar, but dreams about being a kung-fu warrior.

Without revealing too much of the movie, Po heads to the temple one day in order to see the Furious Five, which are the five kung-fu masters (tiger, monkey, crane, viper, and mantis) in action. They were showing their skills in hopes of getting picked as the Dragon Warrior by the elder.

After a funny array of events (Po can't get into the temple so he tries a bunch of different ways), he finally gets over the wall and gets picked to become the Dragon Warrior.

After this, Po stays at the temple and tries to become a master himself. Although its extremely hard for him to master it, Shifu (the teacher/master of kung-fu) finally finds a way to get Po to learn and master the kung-fu arts. Leading to the movie's climax and final fight scene.

All the fight scenes and overall animation in the movie were great. Along with the fight scenes, the movie was extremely comical as well. It had the audience laughing throughout. Everybody there loved the movie and I definitely enjoyed it. Its a must see!

A Tale of Two Movies

It was a hot spring night in the city, and after dinner, Lee and I were trying to figure out what to do. As usual, neither one of us could come up with a plan, so we decided to just go catch a movie. She wanted to drag me along to see Sex and the City (which I didn't have a problem with), but unfortunately it was sold out when we got there.

Which led us to crossing the street and going to the other movie theater in order to catch Harold & Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay.
I loved the first one, and the second definitely wasn't a disappointment.

The first movie ended after Harold and Kumar experienced a wild (to say the least) night trying to find White Castle, since they wanted to satisfy their cravings/'munchies'. Upon return from their journey, Harold (who gains new found courage/self motivation, or whatever you want to call it) runs into Maria. Maria being the neighbor he told Kumar he would ask out. Although he does muster the courage to ask her out, she's on her way to Amsterdam.

In the beginning of Escape From Guantanamo Bay we see the guys decide (actually, Kumar convinced Harold) to go to Amsterdam, in order for Harold to find his Maria and reveal his love for her. Plus Kumar is especially excited about the trip because they can have all the legal marijuana possible! Of course, they don't make it to Amsterdam after Kumar gets the duo in legal trouble and thrown into Guantanamo Bay. The movie is extremely hilarious and I recommend it to those who loved the first one (if you have not seen it, go see it FIRST!). I would write more about it, but don't want to give anything away, just know it's worth seeing!

After seeing that, we decided to make it a double feature night. We crossed the street and attempted to buy tickets for Sex and the City again.

This time (10pm) around it wasn't sold out. I figured since she sat through my movie, I could sit through hers. For starters, the movie started off introducing the characters and gave a little back story to each. I felt this was great because it allowed those who didn't follow the show, understand what the hell was going on.

While I originally thought I was going to be sitting through a boring 'chick flick', I found it very entertaining at times (don't get me wrong, it's definitely a 'chick flick'). It gave the audience all sorts of emotion; funny, sad, amazement, and even disappointment. It gives you a view on four different live styles and four different lives. Each character has their own little story and part of the movie, which made it drag at moments, but helped show the different lives and how they always stuck together.

At the end of the day both these movies were good. I would recommend the first to anyone and everyone, while if you really want to see SITC, go for it. Guys, take your girl to see it, she'll love you for it and it won't be a complete waste. At least I didn't think so, but then again I'm not like other guys.

The Strangers

So it's been some time since I've seen a horror flick like this. One that isn't about blood, guts, and gore, but instead it's about tone, mood and overall about the feeling it gives its viewers. They did a great job at setting the movie's tone and making it extremely creepy.
You feel for the two characters which are in the middle of no where and going through a relationship crisis when they hear a knock at the door. I don't want to spoil the movie for anybody who wants to see it, but everything goes from bad to worse from there on.
Like I said before, this movie isn' t f0r those blood thirsty fans who love the gory, guts and blood movies like Saw and the new horror films out there. This is much more like those movies from before that terrorize the audience along with the characters in the movie (I'll admit I jumped in my seat once or twice). Although there was a point in the movie were it got redundant, you found yourself asking, 'why haven't they killed them yet???'
I don't want to give away the ending, but it does leave you wondering WTF? Most of the people in the theater, along with myself, walked out confused and wondering what was the whole point?
Well, after doing some research and investigating, I found out what the whole point was and where the TRUE reason for the film came from. Well, actually I found a few explanations for the movie, but I thought one fit the best. It was based on a childhood incident that director (Bryan Bertino) experienced;
"That part of the story came to me from a childhood memory. As a kid, I lived in a house on a street in the middle of nowhere. One night, while our parents were out, somebody knocked on the front door and my little sister answered it. At the door were some people asking for somebody that didn't live there. We later found out that these people were knocking on doors in the area and, if no one was home, breaking into the houses. In The Strangers, the fact that someone is at home does not deter the people who've knocked on the front door; it's the reverse."
This was the reason why I couldn't find any information on the Hoyt murders of February 11th 2005. There were none, it was all from the creative imagination of Bryan Bertino.
I do hope there are more horror films like this, just with better story lines. These would truly be a great sight to see.

New Indian Tribe found in Brazil!

So I came across an interesting article the other day while surfing the web. It's concerning a new Indian tribe which was found in Brazil, one of the supposed 100 left with no contact from the outside world. These tribes are believed to still have the same living conditions, rituals, and lifestlyes for over 100 years. This specific tribe was found in Brazil around the boarder of Peru, but the others which are believed to be left in the world, have yet to be located. There is a strong debate whether or not these tribes should be contacted or not. You have those who say we should head to the amazon and learn from them for anthropological reasons, while many argue we should just leave them alone and let them continue living their lives. Why corrupt their lifestyles and have them worry about high gas prices, war, and many other dilemmas which we are now faced with? I don't know, I'm torn between the arguments. How do you feel about it???

Women and their Fantasies

Well, with my intended major being Psychology, I have started reading Psychology Today magazine and have also started checking out their blogs here and there whenever something catches my eye.

I must say that this blog definitely did. It was Matthew Hutson's newest blog "Why Do Women Have Erotic Rape Fantasies" (click on title to go to the blog). It was a very interesting piece to say the very least. It discussed how some studies showed that women have rape fantasies. Out of the 31% to 57% of women who were indicated to have these fantasies, 9% to17% of them actually preferred them. Matthew goes into detail, even listing nine possible reasons/explanations for why these fantasies happen.

Definitely an interesting article which I would recommend to anybody interested in learning more about human behavior and those interested in trying to understand how people think.
